Odor isn't a smell you can outrun with air freshener — it's particles physically embedded in drywall, insulation, and fabric. Fire Damage Laser Cleaning's Odor Removal specialists in Scandia, MN match the treatment method — thermal fogging, ozone, or hydroxyl generation — to the smoke classification found during inspection.
Ozone treatment is powerful but requires the space to be vacated during and briefly after; hydroxyl generation is gentler and can run while the property stays occupied. Choosing the right one for your Scandia property depends on timeline, occupancy, and how deeply the odor has set in.

We locate exactly where residual odor is trapped — wall cavities, ductwork, insulation — before choosing a treatment method.
Thermal fogging, ozone, and hydroxyl generation are all available, chosen based on occupancy needs and severity.
The longer odor sits untreated, especially in warm weather, the more it bonds into porous surfaces.
We test air quality after treatment rather than relying on how the space smells to the nose alone.
Scandia customers sometimes ask why a $30 ozone generator from a hardware store didn't solve their odor problem the way a professional treatment does, and the difference usually comes down to both equipment output and knowing which technology actually fits the situation.
Consumer-grade ozone units typically run at a fraction of the output of commercial equipment, which means they can mask odor temporarily without ever reaching full saturation.
Running ozone equipment in an occupied space, which is common with consumer units, limits how thoroughly it can actually treat the air — a mistake our technicians are trained to avoid by choosing the right technology for occupied versus vacant properties.
A deodorizing fog matched to the smoke type penetrates the same cracks and pores the smoke originally did, neutralizing odor at the source.
For severe, deeply-set odor, ozone generators break down odor molecules at a chemical level, run in an unoccupied space for a set period.
Hydroxyl technology works more gradually but lets a Scandia family stay in their home during treatment.
Where materials can't be fully treated, we apply an odor-blocking sealant before repainting to prevent residual odor from resurfacing.
We deodorize the HVAC system directly, since skipping it means treated rooms can smell like smoke again within days.
Soft materials require separate treatment because they absorb and hold odor more stubbornly than drywall or trim.
Our intake call at +1-866-484-1409 helps determine which treatment method is likely needed before the crew even arrives.
Our team arrives ready to test for odor source location and begin treatment planning immediately.
The technician identifies the odor source and recommends the appropriate technology, with pricing based on treatment type and square footage.
We test air quality after treatment and won't close the job until readings confirm the odor is actually resolved.
